So I’m looking at buying another car, and am down to two final choices. One of them, the seller is out of town, but states that a friend has the title with the seller’s signature on the back. Is this trustworthy? I’m in Oregon for what it’s worth. And the car in question:

Kinja'd!!!

Edit: buyer has agreed to meet me in Eugene if I’m 100% on the car. Thanks for your help Oppo! Another case closed.

Now just deciding between this ol gal, and a white Land Rover Discovery.

Sounds sketchy. But my first car was an e24 soooo thats awesome haha. Look for an 88/89 if you want significantly more power and slim bumpers

Oh this would be my second. Here’s my current. Just replaced the oil pan yesterday. Picture is not 100% up to date, I’m hoping to put up a picture of how it’s currently sitting very soon.

None of the e24s have enough power if you ask me :p

I saw that ad and thought it seemed pretty sketchy. If it’s not though, the price would be very good. It’s quite a bit cheaper than anything else in the area that runs. But the price was another reason I thought it seemed sketchy.

Yeah, I’d want to see the title signed in my presence ... or at least a notary stamp, but some states don’t require a notary to witness car titles.

Did you sell your other 635?

Well it is having some electrical trouble with the maf. Simple in my opinion but that type of stuff scares people off. Interior has rips and whatnot as well. It’s a dilemma for sure.

Nope not yet! Just got it back on the road yesterday after blowing the oil pan on a giant rock in the road. Hoping to post on it soon.

I’ve bought several cars but my grasp on the legality behind it is... tenuous at best.

I’m a lawyer, but every state’s law is different as the transaction is covered by state law. I’m also very risk averse, and I’d want the actual seller to show me some ID to see if the signature is genuine.

Cool, glad to hear it’s still around. One can always use another 6er.

Yeah, the price isn’t out of the realm of reality, just seems a little too good to be true. You could always skype/FaceTime the owner and ask to see an ID and make sure it matches the signature on the title.

I do agree. Better safe than sorry. Luckily, the buyer has agreed that it seems sketchy, and is willing to drive up to Eugene to sign the title if I’m 100% on buying it.

Now to decide between it and a white landy disco...

That’s a pretty good idea. Luckily he agreed it was kind of sketchy and is willing to drive up to Eugene if I’m 100% on buying it.

The original series 6 is one of the best looking cars they’ve ever done. Might be more reliable than the Disco ....

Yep, my 6 is actually incredibly reliable all things considered. The only thing that makes me lean towards the Disco is the fact that it would be my second 6, and I haven’t owned an AWD SUV in over 4 years now, we do a lot of outdoorsy things.

OK, so Disco isn’t dead. Go for it.

Well, I’m not sure I’d call this one “nice” though it is a lot of car for the money, and I know my way around these, and have more than a couple spare parts. Going to go pick ‘er up around 9 tonight. Wish me luck!

Indeed you do. If only I could source some corners now.

I have a Jim Conforti chip in currently, and another I can’t remember the brand that I had in before. I notice almost no difference, though that’s just the butt dyno and it’s been a while since the stock chip was in.
